Edison Bulletin Board: September 2012  Letter from the Chair

Edison Bulletin Board,

Letter from the LSC

September 24, 2012

Welcome to the 2012/2013 academic year. As I said in my greeting at our abbreviated LSC meeting at our Open House, I welcome all the new parents to the best K-8 program in all of CPS. With our outstanding students, committed parents and dedicated teachers and staff, the Thomas A. Edison Regional Gifted Center has consistently been one of the best public elementary schools in the City of Chicago, and the whole of the State of Illinois. There have been, and continue to be many changes in the CPS environment and our own LSC board. I’ve begun my own second year as chair of the ERGC LSC, and I want to thank the council for electing me into that position, and I plan to work to live up to the confidence that has been placed in me. Maryrose Pavkovic has stepped into a leadership position as our vice-chair, and the CIWP and curriculum committee chair. Karen Hynes has offered to function as our LSC secretary. We all are here to be ready to hear parent communications and concerns about our school. Please feel free to reach out to me, or any member of our board. Our contact email addresses are:

Harlan Wallach (Chair)

Maryrose Pavkovic (Vice-Chair), Chair of the CIWP & Curriculum Committee

Karen Hynes (Secretary)

Donna Oberhardt (Principal)

Michael Voulgarelis (Parent Rep.) Chair of the Budget and Finance Committee

Kristin Gross (Parent Rep) Chair of the Technology and Communication Committee

Sandy McNabb (Parent Rep) Chair of the Outreach and Advocacy Committee

Mia Hiliard (Teacher Rep.)

Patrick Odum (Community Rep.)

Jenise Celestin (Community Rep.)

Karen Bynum (ESP Rep.)

Our evening LSC meetings provide a setting for parents and members of our school community to become better informed and offer their perspective on improving our school. Each LSC meeting features an informative report from our principal Mrs. Oberhardt. The principal reports offer a great opportunity for public insight into the workings of the school administration. Our meetings often feature guest speakers addressing issues of importance to our school.  All LSC meetings set aside time for an open forum where we welcome input and questions from Edison parents, and community members.

The LSC has active committees contributing to our school. The LSC committees offer a productive outlet to get involved and to make a meaningful impact on the success of our school.

Our October LSC meeting will be at the school on Thursday October 4 2012 at 6:30 p.m.

Thank you,

Harlan Wallach

Chairman of the Local School Council for the Edison Regional Gifted Center
